(1 ratings, average: 5,00 out of 5)

The modern world forces everyone to use plastic cards, so you shouldn’t be surprised when a child pays in a store with his own plastic.

Many banks offer products for children, and each of them offers its own bonuses and advantages. The Alfa Bank card, which offers several bonuses at once, is quite different from their background.

So, what does a children’s card from Alfa Bank provide, what are its advantages over others:

  • There is a linking of a bank card for children to the account of a parent under 14 years of age, but at the same time, you can set a certain limit to control expenses;
  • Free service in packages of available services;
  • You can install applications on your phone so that you can pay with it;
  • Free transfers in the Alfa-Click and Alfa Mobile applications from cards of any banks;
  • CashBack 5% on everything in cafes and restaurants.

When ordering plastic, you and your child can choose a stylish design. Funny animals or characters from your favorite films will be a pleasant addition to a convenient card that you can safely hand out to your child. Remember the required digital design code and fill out an application at a bank branch.

This is not only fashionable, but also safe, because cash can be taken away, a child can simply lose it, but here it’s easy to control all expenses in a mobile application. In addition, the card allows you to return funds spent up to 5%, no more than 2 thousand in restaurants and cafes.

Various designs of children's cards

If a child is under 14 years old, then he will not be able to choose anything other than the design; his account will be linked to his parent’s. But children over 14 are given personalized plastic, which is linked to their own account.

Tariffs for children's cards

Card cost - 790 rubles per year, but this is not expensive, considering that the debiting of funds can be seen not only in your region, but throughout Russia, and the money from the card is not lost during the transfer. This amount includes the design, linking to the parent’s account, receiving information in the mobile application and personal account.

SMS service is usually charged separately, it amounts to 59 rubles per month. Don’t forget to top up your account on time, as services are usually written off at the beginning of the month and your child may be left with less money than you expected.

Opportunities for parents

Parents can not only control their child’s finances, but also send savings from each purchase to their child’s account.

For example, transferring 10% when spending 32 thousand per month can be accumulated 3200 rubles on account. The cumulative interest in this case will be 7% per annum on the minimum balance on the Savings account.

You can set certain restrictions on spending on the Internet or when making daily payments. Each purchase will be reflected in SMS or personal account. Also in your personal account you can familiarize yourself with all the possibilities that the card allows. Teach your child to count money from childhood, as well as to appreciate what their parents earn.

Cashback and other benefits

In addition to cashback, a card for a child has many advantages. He will not lose his cash, and if he loses his plastic card, it can always be blocked. In addition, many children over 12–14 years old make purchases on the Internet, so they can easily pay with their card.

VKontakte emoticons, various mobile applications - all this will become available if there are allocated funds on the card. When parents trust their child and he does not commit thoughtless acts, then plastic will help him out everywhere.

He can buy movie tickets, go to a cafe with friends, and he won’t have to constantly beg his parents for money. We simply track his spending and replenish his account on time.

The card will help during the trip if the child went somewhere on vacation for the holidays, and Visa and MasterCard are also valid abroad. She will help out in any emergency, if parents are not at home and you need money for lunch or school supplies.

Plastic helps track expenses and teaches a child to plan a budget, and this is not taught in school. And if you want to raise a child who can not only manage finances, but also be successful, then get him a children’s card from Alfa Bank.

This card has 5% cashback in all cafes and restaurants. Which allows you to save significantly. This is a pretty good deal, especially in a big city. It's no secret that children love to eat in cafes and visit McDonald's, so their expenses will not hit their parents' wallets too much.

The card teaches a child to plan his spending from an early age. It helps to save up even a certain amount of money for gifts for parents or friends. Piggy banks are becoming a thing of the past, and now a bank account is becoming a place of accumulation. Even if a teenager wants to earn extra money, he can always transfer his salary to his card in order to save a decent amount of money.

Still have questions?

Is it possible to have a negative balance on a debit card?

If we don’t talk about overdraft, which is officially permitted by the terms of service, then the “minus” on a debit card is a rather unusual situation. It is usually technical in nature and can occur for two main reasons. The first is debiting funds to pay for banking services. Examples here include all kinds of commissions: for SMS notifications, cash withdrawals from “other people’s” ATMs, and so on.

The second common reason for an unauthorized (technical) overdraft is conversion when paying in a currency other than the account currency. The pattern of such transactions is such that the final settlement rate is most often established after a couple of days. In this case, it may turn out that, for example, in rubles for a purchase you will have to pay slightly more than the initially written off (blocked) amount. Proportional to the change (over these couple of days) of the exchange rate.

There are also failures in banks and offline transactions, leading to a minus. If in the examples described, the balance is less than the funds being written off, after the write-off it will become negative. Such cases are often accompanied by penalties and restrictions on the functionality of the “plastic”. Usually the problem is solved by simply replenishing the account (in case of failures, contacting the bank).

What is an authorized overdraft?

Permitted overdraft (or simply “overdraft”) on debit cards is most often offered to holders as part of salary projects. This option allows you to use the issuer’s credit funds - in other words, to make expense transactions on credit. The maximum amount of debt is usually commensurate with average monthly earnings, and the term does not exceed one year.

However, it is worth understanding that when the next salary arrives, the funds first go to repay the “minus”. Therefore, in most cases we are talking about a loan for a period of no more than 2-3 weeks. In general, overdraft conditions can vary significantly, and in theory approach the parameters of credit card loans. And its application is also possible in relation to individual (non-salary) debit cards.

What happens if there are not enough funds on the card to pay for a purchase?

In this case, the payment simply will not be made. For example, when using a terminal at a supermarket checkout, an automatic request is made to the issuing bank. If there are insufficient funds, the transaction will not be approved and a corresponding message will be sent. When SMS notification is connected, a message about the requested operation and refusal is usually also sent to the cardholder on the phone. The situation is similar with regard to online payments.

The exception is debit card transactions made offline. Communication with the issuer at the time of making a purchase is not assumed, that is, the balance on the “plastic” account is not checked. Therefore, the amount of expenditure may exceed the amount of available funds, which will lead to a negative balance. However, this type of operation is not very common today.

Which debit cards are suitable for receiving salaries?

Limits and other restrictions, as well as other features of servicing debit cards are contained in the terms and conditions of the corresponding banking products. For example, the maximum withdrawal amounts (per day, per month) and the possibilities for receiving external payments deserve attention. But the vast majority of proposals provide comfortable use of “plastic” as a salary payment. To do this, you must submit an application to the employer’s accounting department indicating the card account details.

Let us note that employers are often extremely reluctant to agree to make payments to the accounts of “third-party” banks, trying to keep employees in the corporate salary project. However, the current version of the Labor Code (Article 136) gives the employee the right to independently choose a credit institution to receive “hard earned money”. Any restrictions in this area are illegal.

Is it possible to access the funds on the card without the card itself?

A plastic card is a tool for accessing funds that are stored in the account linked to it. However, the conditions for servicing bank accounts may differ. Today, many credit institutions are ready to issue funds from card accounts using a passport through a cash desk without any restrictions. Others carry out such operations only when the “plastic” is damaged or lost. Still others limit clients even more, refusing to meet them halfway at all.

One way or another, it is worth remembering: the client has the right to close a bank account at any time by receiving in hand (or sending to another account) the amount of the current balance. If such drastic measures are undesirable, remote maintenance services can “save” you. As a rule, they offer various withdrawal options. True, this recipe does not always work in a number of situations - for example, if the card is blocked.

We also note that in practice this issue is sometimes resolved differently in branches of the same bank. If in one office someone who has lost a card is asked to wait two weeks for a reissue, then in another they can easily issue cash in a couple of minutes.

At what age can you get a debit card?

Formally, debit card holders can be young people from 6 years of age. This circumstance follows from Art. 28 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, which establishes this age as the minimum for independent management of funds in a limited segment of situations. The “plastic” is issued in the form of an additional card linked to the account of one of the parents (adoptive parent, guardian). From the age of 14, it is possible to issue a basic card, although the consent of an adult is still required.

In practice, not all banks are ready to offer “plastic” to children under 14 years of age, and sometimes the corresponding instrument is available only from the age of 18. However, there are options on the market that give access to non-cash payments even to primary school students.

    11 Tinkoff hacks for users of the largest online bank

Bank cards have become a familiar form of payment for goods and services for many of us, because getting plastic is quite simple, all you need to do is contact any commercial bank. But that’s not all, even children, starting from school age, can use plastic, insofar as banks provide such an opportunity. Therefore, we will consider what advantages a children’s bank card provides during the process of registration and use, as well as a list of banks where it can be purchased.

Why does a child need a card?

It is important for every parent to teach their child how to handle money, and it is advisable to instill such skills from early childhood. Another advantage of plastic over cash is that it is almost impossible to steal money from it; even if a child loses his plastic, the funds on it will be under the reliable protection of the bank.

By the way, parents can always control their child’s expenses. Why? Because they are the ones who decide the question of how much he can spend in one day and month. In addition, modern technologies allow holders of the main card to receive notifications about all expense transactions via SMS messages. So, for example, if the holder of additional cards paid for a purchase in a store or withdrew cash through an ATM, the bank account owner will immediately receive a report on the transaction, which will indicate the amount debited and the name of the outlet or ATM address.

Please note that a bank card is a more reliable way to store money that each parent allocates to their child for pocket expenses.

In fact, we can talk endlessly about the benefits of a plastic card for a child. Insofar as banks provide plastic cards to children from 7 years old, in order to attract the maximum number of clients, they offer various programs, for example, a piggy bank service, with its help you can put aside a certain amount into a separate blocked account, and in the future spend it on achieving your cherished goals.

By the way, as already mentioned, parents set a limit on their child’s monthly expenses; he can spend only within the permissible amount; the remaining funds do not transfer to the next month. This allows you to avoid spending that the child’s parents prohibit.

Method of registration and use of the card

First of all, it should be noted that bank cards for children under 14 years of age are not a separate independent form of plastic, because in general the process of obtaining a bank card begins with opening a personal account. In simple words, your money is not stored on the card, it is placed in a bank account, and the plastic is just a key to the account, therefore, if it is lost, nothing threatens the client’s funds if he managed to restrict access to it (block) in time.

So, to open a bank account, the client will be required to provide an identification document; children under the age of 14 do not have one, since a passport can only be obtained upon reaching 14 years of age. Accordingly, only his parent or legal representative can handle the registration of plastic. The registration procedure in all banks is almost the same, that is, the client must contact the bank branch directly and write the appropriate application from the documents he may need:

  • passport;
  • child's birth certificate.

As a rule, a certain period of time from several days to 2 weeks is allotted for the production of plastic. On the appointed day, the card will be ready, you need to pick it up. Many cards, at least those that meet security requirements, are personalized; on children's cards the name of its immediate owner is displayed.

Please note that the child’s card account is linked to the parent’s account; it can only be topped up by bank transfer by holders of the main card.

For example, if grandparents want to give their grandson a gift and send him a money transfer to his plastic account, they cannot do this for the reason that the funds will still be credited to the main card. But in the future it will be possible to top up your account with an additional one.

Every parent is more concerned about their child’s expenses, so banks have taken care of the safety of children’s plastic cards. In addition to the fact that parents can track all the child’s spending transactions, top up his account, set a limit, block the card and manage his account through remote services, they can prohibit certain types of expenses, for example, withdrawing cash from an ATM or paying for purchases via the Internet.

By the way, a very important point - the parents’ card must be a debit card, that is, you cannot link additional plastic to a credit account. Do not forget that the bank charges a fee for issuing and servicing plastic; if we are talking about a children's card, as a rule, it is either half the price or is issued free of charge.

If the potential card holder is over 14 years old, he can open a card in his own name. That is, a separate independent plastic. To do this, he will need to provide his passport, an identity document of one of the parents and his written permission. From the age of 14, a teenager can independently manage personal funds; in addition, such a card can be used by him to receive wages or social benefits.

Which bank to contact

The opportunity to receive a plastic card for a minor child appeared not so long ago; more precisely, teenage cards from the age of 14 appeared on the financial services market quite a long time ago. But not all banks issue plastic from the age of 7. Let's look at a few current proposals.

Alfa Bank

A debit card for a child under 14 years old from Alfa Bank has a bright design and endless possibilities. The bank invites parents to issue a card with an individual design for a child under 14 years old, linked to their account, and after 14 years old, to a separate one opened in his name. That is, if a teenager has reached the age of 14, he can independently open a bank account and issue a card costing only 790 rubles per year.
What opportunities does the bank offer:

  1. Track your minor's expenses using a mobile app for parents.
  2. Cashback up to 5% when paying bills in cafes and restaurants.
  3. Ability to make transfers in the mobile application.
  4. Service piggy bank for the child’s own savings.

It is worth explaining how the piggy bank service works; a certain amount, for example, 10% of all expenses, will be blocked in a separate account. That is, as you pay for goods and services with the card, an amount will accumulate on it, for which the bank calculates the account balance at 7% per annum.

Please note that you can order a children's card from Alfa Bank without visiting the office; this can be done online.

VTB Bank of Moscow

There is no specialized offer for children, but, nevertheless, the bank allows its clients to open an additional card, including for minor children. Additional plastic is available for any debit card of VTB Bank of Moscow. In this case, additional plastic will have the same functions and advantages as the main card. The bank account owner will receive a monthly report on expenses on additional cards and set limits.

Binbank

Another bank that offers a debit card for children from 7 to 17 years old. To receive it, parents must order a card and link additional plastic to its account. By the way, if you already have a card, then you don’t need to do this. Next, you can order a children’s card online on the bank’s official website. Issue and maintenance costs, then its cost is 50 rubles monthly.

As for other terms of service, replenishing the card account is free of charge, and there is no fee for withdrawing cash from a bank ATM. Among other things, the bank offers 7% per annum on the account balance, free SMS information and a monthly report by email to the owner of the main card. Here, parents can certainly keep track of their child's expenses and set restrictions and limits on their account.

Sberbank of Russia

At Sberbank, parents can apply for an additional card for their child if they use a debit card. You can issue additional plastic for almost any bank card, except for personal and youth cards. The terms of use here are the same as everywhere else, that is, parents set a limit on daily and monthly spending and receive an SMS notification (if the Mobile Bank service is activated) about all expenses.

You can apply for additional plastic at any Sberbank branch. In addition, in order to set a limit, parents must contact Sberbank directly; more precisely, this must be done if you want to change the limit, otherwise, from the first day of each month, the limit that was in effect in the previous period will be set.

Advantages and disadvantages

In fact, issuing a bank card for a child allows parents to have maximum control over their current expenses, track all transactions, set restrictions and limits. That is, a young user from early childhood learns to control expenses and manage their finances. At the same time, both parents and children can be calm about the safety of their funds.

If we talk about shortcomings, there are practically none. The only caveat is that when choosing a card for your child, special attention is paid to the cost of annual service and other conditions. By the way, as you can see, some banks offer additional bonuses in the form of interest on the balance, while others do not.

Please note that the additional card has an expiration date and, as a rule, it is equal to the expiration date of the parent’s plastic card, that is, after it expires, you need to contact the bank again to have it reissue the card.

To summarize, is it possible to issue a bank card for a child? Absolutely yes. Moreover, several large commercial banks offer this service, so parents can choose the one with which they already cooperate or which offers the most favorable conditions. By the way, one cannot help but note the fact that when choosing a card for a child, you should definitely pay attention to how much control the owner of the main card can exercise over his child’s expenses.
